DAVID MASE

*1986

lives and works in Vienna, Austria

David Mase's work references found and used objects and surfaces, as well as ancient, art historical, and pop cultural sources. Through distortion and varying degrees of abstraction, he often dissolves human figures into a spatial composition and uses the blurring of abstraction to address specific themes or emotional states.

The wear and tear of objects is a stylistic device he uses in his work: By alternately applying and removing paint, he alters surfaces to create the impression of a temporal component, so that his paintings often appear as uncovered, absurd relics of a fictional history.
